Opening, Zergling Scout, Roach & Queen defence
- 1Overview
- 2Basic Build Order
Overview[edit]
A standard opening against Zerg and Terran to maximize Larva and Drone production, it is most likely to produce up to at least 36 Drones before choosing a follow-up like an early Roach Warren or Baneling Nest to defend or fast-Lair for Spire to control the air. The first two Overlords are to scout the closest possible spawn positions; later to poke into the opposing main (stay as close as possible to the cliff edges) for tech or a quick glance at the opposing unit count. Android for laptop.
Against Protoss, 3 Hatch before Pool is solid opening in against Forge-fast expand and Gateway-fast expands on long rush distances; if at close rush distances Roaches and Spore Crawlers are considered the safe choice against most early pressure and harassment options. This is true for all the other match-ups, except against Terran, Zerglings are mostly prefered to damage buffer for Queens defensive and poke at the front for quick unit head counts.
Goal[edit]
Al call of duty. Start a Hatchery first and time Zerglings to defend a Reaper, Adept or opposing Zerglings pressure/harassment for Queens to finish; and in ZvZ a Spine Crawler to end the early mass Zergling wars.
Basic Build Order[edit]
This build can be played on every 4-player-map and most 2-player-maps as well.
18-Hatch |
- 13 Overlord[1]
- 17 Hatchery
- 18 Extractor[2]
- 17 Pool
- 20 Overlord
- 21 @100 gas start Metabolic Boost
- 22 @100% Hatchery add two Queens
|
- ↑You should scout after you build your Overlord
- ↑If you opponent plays a very fast FE and your Scouting is very good, you can delay gas
|
17-Hatch |
- 13 Overlord[1]
- 17 Hatchery
- 17 Extractor[2]
- 17 Pool
- 21 Overlord
- 21 @100 gas start Metabolic Boost
- @100% Hatchery add two Queens
|
- ↑You should scout after you build your Overlord
- ↑If you opponent plays a very fast FE and your Scouting is very good, you can delay gas
|
With 17-Hatch your first Queen and your Ling-Speed is about 5 seconds earlier, but you have a slight economic disadvantage.
Notes[edit]
- If you do not scout at 13 Supply, you might not scout Cheese in time. If you want to delay your gas or play 3 Hatch before Pool, you should scout as well.
- You will not get supplyblocked at 22/22, if you start your 2nd Hatchery ASAP. If your Hatch is delayed, an Overlord at 21 is too late.
- You can play 18-Pool-18-Gas as well, if want to have Zerglings more quickly
- Variation: 17 Hatch, 17 Extractor and 17 Pool

DIMAGA | DIMAGA plays a similar opening, but goes for 16-Hatch-17-Pool. This allows Zerglings and Queens more early but is less economic. In this match it helped DIMAGA to defend a Reaper with 2 Queens and 2 Zerglings. |
